"Hire team members that have a passion for the mission, are willing to learn, and are smarter than the CEO.  Maintain open communication by talking with staff on a regular basis about the strengths and challenges of their role."

Advice for leaders who want to create a workplace where people can flourish:

"Transparency, communication, and clarity are key to a successful work environment.  Don't ask a staff member to do any task that you would not do yourself."

"We provide opportunities within the agency for staff to take on additional responsibilities and roles.  Encourage staff to participate in professional development opportunities."
