FlourishesConsulting Leader Spotlight for Emmalyn Jerome

Our Leader Spotlight includes advice and insights from our clients and friends. It is our pleasure to shine the light on leaders who inspire growth, collaboration, and impact.

Meet Emmalyn Jerome, Chief Executive Officer, Lower Lights Ministries.

Most important lesson you’ve learned about building and leading a team:

“One of the most important lessons that I am learning in leading teams is being fully present through active listening and remembering and including them in decision making and problem solving. We have learned to play to our strengths through honest communication. Celebrating the joys in our work and honest processing of hard things.”

Advice for leaders who want to create a workplace where people can flourish:

“Be an open book and lead how you would want to be led. Knowing myself and being confident in who I am has given me courage to ask all of our team members what I need to stop doing or start doing to be a better leader. My team trusts me and is honest with me. I check-in with team members not just on work related things, but also on life.”

Practice that has helped you lead with confidence, and how it has influenced your team:

“I received an email with the signature, 'May the peace and pace of Christ be with you.' It has stuck with me. I don’t allow myself to be overburdened, but work to empower others and understand the sacred rhythms of Sabbath rest. Most of all, I know that God has called me to lead Lower Lights Ministries. Therefore, it is ultimately God's ministry, not mine. God has always provided the people, funding, buildings, program development ideas, and resources. My response is to be faithful in trusting, listening, and doing what God says. The results are up to God.”
