Our Leader Spotlight includes advice and insights from our clients and friends. It is our pleasure to shine the light on leaders who inspire growth, collaboration, and impact.

Meet Doyle & Jennifer Jackson, Pastors, The Church Next Door in Columbus, Ohio.

One piece of advice for leaders who want to create a workplace where people can flourish:

“Be a servant leader. Participate alongside your team. Find ways to celebrate the small wins with high fives, donuts and really celebrate with JOY the big wins with group affirmation, lunch, or other recognition. You need to know that you are called to this venture because the call will attract the team. The connect with God helps the whole team flourish. The awareness of God in the process provides momentum and a timing of your steps in the proper order. The Lord is attractive for the team as His calling gives us strength when the days are difficult. And He is the wind behind your back when days are good. You are motivated to please and honor Him.”

Balancing organizational goals with people’s needs when facing a tough decision:

“People matter most. But when goals aren’t met, then sometimes the organization will be in disrepair or even disappear and then the people won’t have it if we don’t care for it properly. There must be a balance. Leadership is needed especially in a volunteer organization. If you don’t have a volunteer/leader over an area, then that area will be paused. We must continually attend to and love people and at the same time build the infrastructure and best business practices.”

Practice or mindset that has helped you lead with confidence:

"The Word of God has been a daily anchor and resets wrong thinking. Here are four non-negotiable areas:

  • Daily Prayer with help from the Holy Spirit

  • Reading the Word of God

  • Having a group of Godly mentors and coaches

  • Having people that we are mentoring and others who are Godly friends

When you spend time with people, whether a mentor, friend or mentee, you see it from the 'chess board pieces’ and less from the aerial view of a leader; this is grounding and good."
